An 83-year-old woman died and her granddaughter was injured when they jumped from the fourth floor of their apartment in Dwarka on Wednesday in an attempt to save themselves from a fire. The Pacific Apartments had fire safety equipment but it was not functional and its fire safety certificate had expired. Fire officers said the possible reasons for the fire were a short circuit in the AC compressor, a similar problem with the refrigerator or a gas leak.

One of the two women who had jumped from the fourth floor of a building to escape from fire in Dwarka is still in ICU, critical, having suffered multiple fractures, a police officer said on Thursday.

The crime and FSL teams are on the spot and the reason for the fire is being probed.

All 52 residents of the building, including 24 women, an equal number of men and four children were immediately evacuated, said the fire department. 

A fire broke out in a parking lot of a building in Dwarka in which five people sustained minor burn injuries, Delhi Fire Service officials said.
