PNA file photo MALASIQUI, Pangasinan - The Department of Education (DepEd) Policy, Planning, and Research Division has recorded 738,212 enrollees in the Ilocos Region as of August 3. Based on the data obtained by the Philippine News Agency on Friday, at least 43,205 are enrolled in kindergarten, 317,268 in elementary, 251,694 in junior high, and 126,045 in senior high school. In an interview, DepEd Ilocos Region Public Affairs Unit head Cesar Bucsit said the number is expected to increase as enrollment is still ongoing. Despite the 7.0 magnitude earthquake's damage to some schools, he said majority of the classrooms in the region are not affected but the DepEd is still monitoring and checking the structural stability of Ilocos Region's almost 3,000 schools. Bucsit said the damaged classrooms, toilets, hand washing facilities, and furniture will be allocated with funds for repair or reconstruction following the ongoing assessment of the DepEd-1.
