Hong, File) It’s not new for Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to blame Chicago’s crime on “lax gun laws” in neighboring states like Indiana, but Lightfoot’s now taking her bluster to a whole new level; suing an Indiana gun store that she and other city officials say is fueling the violence in the Windy City. In the new lawsuit filed on Monday, the city alleges that Westforth Sports of Gary, Indiana is “knowingly” selling guns to straw buyers and firearms traffickers who are hauling the guns a few miles over the state line into Chicago.

CHICAGO — Attorneys for the city filed a lawsuit Monday against a Northwest Indiana gun shop alleging it has flouted federal gun laws for more than a decade, flooding the city with guns that are resold to those who cannot legally own them. The lawsuit against Westforth Sports Inc. in Calumet Township seeks a court order placing the gun shop under supervision for five years and requiring it to preserve records, train employees, assist in the recovery of illegally sold guns and post bonds that must be forfeited in the event of future violations. CHICAGO — The city of Chicago on Monday sued a northwest Indiana gun store alleging it has sold hundreds of guns to straw buyers that wound up in the hands of felons or at crime scenes in the city, some within days of purchase. The lawsuit filed in Cook County Chancery Court seeks a court order requiring Westforth Sports Inc., of Gary, to cease practices contributing to gun trafficking, as well as unspecified damages.
