Manipur's Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has confirmed the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the state and has declared the Pig Farm of the Central Agriculture University (CAU) in Imphal West District as 'epicentre' of the .
The containment and eradication of ASF in the ‘infected zone’ covering a 1 km radius of infected premises, ‘surveillance zone’ covering a 10 km radius from infected premises (or 9 km outside the infected zone) and ‘free zone’ beyond surveillance zone, have also been initiated, officials conveyed
Five people are suspected to have died due to dengue. This time it is a worsening of the Dengue outbreak with 1338 dengue cases officially registered till Friday. This is the highest infection figure that the state has recorded in recent times. There were only 203 cases of dengue reported in 2021 while in 2022, it increased to 503 cases.
Manipur Progressive Pig Farmers’ Association reported earlier that around 90 per cent of the pigs have died due to an unknown disease in five different valley districts of Manipur.
The department of animal husbandry and dairying responded swiftly and has taken all necessary steps to provide technical and financial support in close co-ordination with the state and district officials of the department concerned.
