DIMAPUR Nagaland Ecological and Sanitation Management Society (NESMS) organised a one-day seminar on ‘Promotion of Agar wood plantation in Northeastern region of India’ on Thursday at Aitlenden ward in Tuli town under Mokokchung district. An update from the society stated that the seminar was sponsored by North Eastern Resources Community Management Project under NEC, Shillong, Ministry of DONER, government of India. It stated that short introduction on NERCORM and NESMS was delivered by Temjen Jamir, NESMS coordinator. The resources person and Forester-II from Forest department, Tuli range office, P Samalemzung, stated that Agar wood is a high valued/ expensive natural raw material in the world for its distinctive fragrances. He explained its scientific name as Aquilaria Malaccensis and informed that there are 21 species found in India.
