Truck loads of the creatures are turning up every hour as the town's residents, some of them lacking heat or basic amenities in their own homes due to the unusually chilly weather, bring them in to be cared for at the centre. Rescuers in Texas, in the US, have been busy helping thousands of turtles who have been struggling with the cold weather.

The potentially fatal condition happens when the animals become so cold they cannot move.

Will Bellamy spotted two injured birds along the US Texas coast earlier this week, and the self-described animal lover delivered them to conservationists for care.
