NASA expert Dan Coe joined FOX 17 to talk about a new find, Earendel. The Hubble Space Telescope has been observing the cosmos for more than 30 years, and a new observation has just been released – the farthest individual star ever observed
NASA's Hubble space telescope has detected the light of a star that existed within the first billion years after the universe’s birth in the big bang, astronomers said on Wednesday (March 30). It is said to be the farthest individual star ever seen to date. NASA informed that the newly discovered star, called "Earendel". Scientists have said that the star is so far away its light has taken 12.9 billion years to reach Earth, when the universe was seven per cent its current age.
The star will soon be observed by NASAs James Webb Space Telescope. Researchers said the new telescope will measure its brightness.
The star named Earendel, which means "morning star" in Old English, is estimated to be at least 50 times the mass of our Sun and millions of times as bright, rivalling the most massive stars known.
It sits in a different galaxy billions of light-years away.
