Portland police have identified the man fatally stabbed downtown in late March and arrested another man on suspicion of killing him.
William Aho, 37, was arrested Friday after Portland police said he robbed someone near the west ramp to the Morrison Bridge using a homemade whip the evening before. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center, records show.
Robbery detectives later connected Aho to the fatal stabbing of 40-year-old Jay Hahn, who died shortly after midnight March 31. The robbery and fatal stabbing took place within five blocks of each other, according to police. ....

A 39-year-old Portland man is facing 12 criminal charges after he reportedly pushed a woman into traffic near Southeast Hawthorne and Cesar E. Chavez boulevards, set a power pole on fire and brawled with officers responding to the scene, police say.
Kenneth Church was arrested Thursday afternoon. He’s accused of and assault, reckless endangering, criminal mischief and three counts of attempted assault on a police officer, among other charges.
Police responded to the intersection at about 3:15 p.m., more than 20 minutes after a call came in about the incident. ....

Portland school board candidates have brought in nearly $100,000 in donations and more than one quarter of that cash has so far come from one source: the union representing the district’s educators.
With a week to go until Election Day, the Portland Association of Teachers has donated $13,000 each to the campaigns of Herman Greene and Gary Hollands, both of whom the union endorsed, campaign disclosure reports indicate.
Greene’s race, a four-way contest for the Zone 4 position currently held by Rita Moore, is among the most competitive this year. ....

Portland Public Schools will see a boost of about $14 million in its general fund next year. The district also has about $74 million left in federal relief money it can tap.
But its $762 million spending plan will not be enough to mount a full-scale return to classrooms in the fall if the Oregon Department of Education maintains its three-foot distancing rules beyond this school year, Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero told the school board Tuesday. ....
