The Pakatan Harapan Education Committee urged Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and his two deputies Mah Hang Soon and Muslimin Yahaya to act proactively to improve online learning through the Teaching and Learning at Home method.
It said the Education Ministry seems to be carrying out a knee jerk reaction without having a long-term plan and an emergency plan, as well as lack a creative approach on the matter.

MP SPEAKS | The government is sending a dangerous message to sexual predators by still allowing teacher who made a joke about rape, sodomy and sexual grooming to teach and interact with students.
Yesterday, in an online forum with opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, student Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam who exposed a teacher after he made lewd, sexist remarks in the classroom and trivialised rape, stated that the teacher is still teaching in her school and not temporarily suspended pending investigations.
The teacher was also said to have tried to defend himself in front of other students and claimed he was slandered. ....

Selangor to shut school for two days ahead of Hari Raya break amid Covid-19 surge


PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - All schools in Malaysia s Selangor state have been instructed to close for two days from Thursday (May 6), amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in the densely populated state.
The schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday, said a circular issued by the state Education Department.
Schools in the state will be shut for two weeks, from next week, to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri and with fresh movement curbs imposed for most of Selangor.
In light of the fact that there will only be two days of face-to-face learning left before the Hari Raya break, the ministry has decided to close all schools in the state. ....

Malaysiakini has submitted the names of 15 schools where female students were allegedly subjected to period spot checks to prove that they are menstruating.
This came after Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said his ministry s investigations thus far found no indication that such practices existed.
If it happens, tell me at which school, so action can be taken, Radzi (
above) told a press conference last week, adding that his ministry was also investigating if such incidents were taking place at boarding schools under the ministry. ....

A coalition of individuals, education groups and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) has disagreed with the call for students to stage a one-day protest or walkout from class to protest recent issues of rape jokes and sexual harassment in schools.
In a statement today, Gabungan Pendidikan Sejahtera Malaysia said it should be Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin (
above) who should take action on those issues instead.
