England's schools 'need £15 billion more' to recover from Covid

SCHOOLS in England need up to £15 billion in extra funding if children are to catch up on learning missed through Covid-19, according to a leading education think tank.
The government has made £1.7 billion in catch-up funding available, but analysis by the Educational Policy Institute published today says that up to 10 times that sum needs to be invested  over the next three years.
Without “massive policy interventions,” there could be severe consequences for young people’s education, earnings and life chances, it says, with individual lifetime earnings losses of between £8,000 and £50,000 — between £60 billion and £420bn across England’s eight million pupils.

Letter: 'Council needs to provide plan for education' | Bridport and Lyme Regis News

BRIDPORT News April 8th 2021 detailed some of Dorset Council staff’s generous pay packets. Dorset taxpayers support three times the number of 'Big Earners’ at over £100,000 p.a than the average English taxpayer. When it comes to super inflated salaries, Dorset taxpayers fund 6 ‘Big Earners’ at over £150,000p.a. when the average English taxpayer supports 1.7.
Now this might be generous rather than foolish if our ‘Big Earners’ were extra efficient, well-qualified or experienced, but they cannot be any of these because Dorset Council staff are extra eager to hire in external consultants to help them.
However, when it comes to results, our council staff and their consultants seem to be delivering poor value for money. For example, one ‘Big Earner’, Theresa Leavy has responsibility for our schools, for which she receives from the taxpayer a bumper £163,000 p.a. including pension. But where do we find Dorset schools? Not bumping along the bottom, surely?
