Effingham School Board Meeting Was Held Today

Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham School Board held their regularly scheduled meeting today.
The amended budget hearing was first, followed by public comment to the board by Kesney Estrada.
The regular consent agenda was after the public comments, and part of the discussion centered around getting the Library Committee more funding. Board Member Robin Klosterman emphasized the need for more Library Budget funding, pointing out that the Early Learning Center doesn’t even have a library.
The Board also discussed the upcoming school year, and how the plan is to have 5-day, in-person learning from the beginning of the year. Superintendent Mark Doan also said that the County Health Department is in charge of quarantining students and staff, not the school. ....

About a dozen residents Wednesday protested selectmen’s decision to delay town meeting and election to May. The rest of the Governor Wentworth Regional School District’s towns – Brookfield, New Durham, Ossipee, Tuftonboro and Wolfeboro – are voting in March, as in past years.
The protesters, led by Leanne Leonard, a mother of three children in the school district, stood outside the town offices starting at 5 p.m. while Selectmen Michael Cahalane (chair), Chuck Fuller and Tom Hart met to host a Zoom public hearing to explain their decision. ....

Effingham residents protest delayed vote


EFFINGHAM — About a dozen residents Wednesday protested selectmen s decision to delay town meeting and election to May. The rest of the Governor Wentworth Regional School District s towns — Brookfield, New Durham, Ossipee, Tuftonboro and Wolfeboro — are voting in March, as in past years.
The protesters, led by Leanne Leonard, a mother of three children in the school district, stood outside the town offices starting at 5 p.m. while selectmen Michael Cahalane (chair), Chuck Fuller and Tom Hart met to host a Zoom public hearing to explain their decision.
Some of the protesters held signs while others sat in their cars to keep warm. At one point, the group walked behind the town office to make sure selectmen could see their signs. ....
