Hereford Opens Up It’s been a long time, but at last Hereford along with the rest of the country is opening the doors as shopping and shops can open up – the pleasure of shopping is allowed once again. Hereford has a remarkable range of independent specialist stores and we ask three of them for their thoughts and views on the city and future plans. A HEREFORD business owner has slammed Herefordshire Council for a "filthy and disgusting" city centre which he says will kill trade when lockdown eases. Financial advisor Paul Davies, of Kingfurness and Associates, said a bag of overflowing rubbish had been outside his office in Eign Street for almost a month before Herefordshire Council removed it. He said that was only after emailing and calling Herefordshire Council to try and get it cleaned up, even though the council says it empties bins and litter picks in the city centre every day. "There's a lot of problem with drug addicts down there [Eign Gate], but that bin has been there for maybe three or four weeks," he said. "Somebody came to pick the bag up and walked off. All the spillage out of the bag was on the floor, never picked it up. Pedestrians are being asked to use different routes to cross the city's busy A49. The underpass in Victoria Street/Eign Gate has been hit by the recent deluges. A spokesperson for Highways England said: “We are working hard to reopen the underpass as soon as we can. "But in the meantime we would urge people not to try to get across the main A49 carriageway here but to find a safe point to cross. “Working with Hereford City Council, signs are being erected pointing to a safe diversion route while the underpass is closed and we would appeal to pedestrians to follow this route for ...
