Remembrance Tree raises €5,000 for two charities

Wicklow Cancer Support and St Vincent de Paul have benefited from the annual Remembrance Tree despite Covid-19 restrictions.
Wicklow Rotary Club erected the annual Remembrance Tree for the 14th successive year and collected funds for a total of €5,000 for both volunteer organisations.
Andy Bolger, president of Wicklow Rotary, said: 'The Remembrance Tree has proved a popular meeting place leading up to Christmas every year for the people of Wicklow and visitors to the town. Everyone is encouraged to sign the Book of Remembrance and write a message to remember a departed loved one. This year, this aspect of the project wasn't possible because of Covid-19 restrictions, but we felt it was important for the town and Rotary to erect the Remembrance Tree.'

His efforts managed to raise a total of €1,845, much to the delight of Wicklow Cancer Support.
Chairperson Eileen Earls said: 'Thank you so much to Fr Pat. He raised an amazing figure, especially considering the difficulties presented by Covid.

Cancer charity is in the pink after fundraiser

A pink digger rented out by Wicklow Hire and Sales in aid of Wicklow Cancer Support has raised just over €10,000 in the space of 18 months.
The hire company based in Wicklow town purchased a Kubota U17 mini digger and painted the powerful excavator a bright shade of pink. Any funds raised through the rental of the pink digger went directly to Wicklow Cancer Support.
Barry O'Reilly of Wicklow Hire and Sales has been delighted with the amount of support the initiative has generated.
'It has worked out really well. People have been very supportive, even those who didn't know about the pink digger and its association with Wicklow Cancer Support.
