There is tension presently in Oruku and Umuode communities in the Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State as both have concluded plans to resume hostilities against each other after years of truce. SaharaReporters learnt that already some of the trouble making residents had distributed AK-47 rifles and General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG) to the militants to attack each other at any time.
Oruku community in the Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State was thrown into chaos again on Wednesday morning as a group of militants allegedly burnt 10 houses belonging to another group in the community. Among the houses burnt on Tuesday and early hours of Wednesday was that of the murdered traditional ruler, Igwe Emmanuel Mba; former local government chairman, Hon. Ejike Ani and his younger brother, Agozie Ani. SaharaReporters also gathered that the warring group also shot and killed one man on Christmas Day in his house.
The hoodlums are said to be loyal to some powerful individuals in the community who are involved in a lingering communal crisis in the area.
The people of Oruku Community in the Nkanu East local government area of Enugu State have raised the alarm over the state government’s release of three persons arrested in connection with the killing of their traditional ruler, Igwe Emmanuel Mba. This is coming as the President General of the Town Union, Chief Linus Nwatu was shot dead in his house on Saturday morning by the same criminal gang. This is sequel to the protracted Oruku/Umuode communal conflict that had lasted for over three decades.
