"In-situ neutron and synchrotron methods for the investigation of plast" by Klaus Dieter Liss - Vimarsana News

"In-situ neutron and synchrotron methods for the investigation of plast" by Klaus Dieter Liss

Following a crash course in neutron and synchrotron diffraction standards, applications are demonstrated on selected metallic systems, comprising the atomic order in titanium aluminide intermetallics at thermal and mechanical processing. High pressure torsion processed specimens show heterogeneous structure and order. Upon heating, their nanostructure evolves revealing regimes of recovery, recrystallization and grain growth, which can be exploited for engineering designated microstructures with enhanced physical and mechanical properties. Advanced analysis of two-dimensional diffractograms by ...

"Hydrogen-Induced Dislocation Nucleation and Plastic Deformation of 〈00" by Jiaqing Li, Ziyue Wu et al.

The grain boundary (GB) plays a crucial role in dominating hydrogen-induced plastic deformation and intergranular failure in polycrystal metals. In the present study, molecular dynamics simulations were employed to study the effects of hydrogen segregation on dislocation plasticity of a series of symmetrical tilt grain boundaries (STGBs) with various hydrogen concentrations. Our study shows that hydrogen both enhances and reduces dislocation nucleation events from STGBs, depending on different GB structures. Specifically, for (Formula presented.) STGBs, hydrogen does not affect the mode of het...

"A review on plastic deformation induced surface/interface roughening o" by Ning Nie, Lihong Su et al. - Vimarsana News

"A review on plastic deformation induced surface/interface roughening o" by Ning Nie, Lihong Su et al.

With the increasing demand for light weight design in industries such as aerospace and automotive, sheet metallic materials with high strength and low density have been intensively manufactured and widely applied. However, plastic deformation induced surface roughening is an undesirable and a practically unavoidable phenomenon for sheet metallic materials and becomes the subject of great attention in recent years. The evolution of surface roughening plays important roles in the strain limit of the deformation and also significantly influences the product quality and application. This paper pro...
