New Delhi: The third and the last phase of elections in Assam got underway at 7 am today, April 6. Voting will continue till 6 pm.
In this phase, the remaining 40 of the total 126 assembly seats would go for polling. In the 2016 polls, the two key contenders – the BJP and Congress – had pocketed 11 seats each of these 40 seats.

PTI, Kailash Vijayvargiya, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national general secretary, said that if voted to power in Bengal, the party will not take up any exercise to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and said the opposition Trinamool Congress was wrong in saying that the party will be “taking away the citizenship rights of people”.
The party’s Bengal minder, however, said that BJP intends to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and provide rights to (non-Muslim) refugees who fled religious persecution in neighbouring countries and moved to India.

New Delhi: In an example of the long shadow the NEET controversy has cast on the assembly elections, the family of an MBBS aspirant who died by suicide has decided to file a police complaint against an AIADMK minister for sharing a manipulated video featuring her.
The News Minute reported on April 4 that the brother of Anitha, the deceased National Eligibility cum Entrance Test aspirant, will file a complaint against the state’s Tamil language and culture minister Mafoi Pandiarajan at the Senthurai police station.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s letter to leaders of various parties opposed to the rule of Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre has triggered much speculation in the state which is going through a high-voltage and prolonged eight-phase election.
