Although the weather was not encouraging last week, mart numbers rose across the country. Trade, if anything, was also stronger with managers reporting increased demand from farmers and those needing certain numbers to qualify for direct payments, seven-month men, especially for lighter stock.
A good share of marts were back last week, and demand for cattle of all types is at least as strong as it was pre-Christmas, with feeder and factory types stronger.
The Lord God listened carefully to the ordinary farmer sitting on the stepped seats at his local mart. “God,” the farmer asked. “Could you not make them just a little easier to buy? Would it really hurt if they were just a little bit cheaper?”
