Compensation ordered from woman who stole air freshener
Prosecutor Emma Charleton told the court she had taken a total of £73-worth of air fresheners from Wilko on May 13 and 15. She wasn’t identified as a suspect until later – despite being given a caution for theft and supplying cannabis on May 16. She had no previous convictions. Defending, Mark Glendenning said his client had had a problem with drugs at the time, which was now being “managed”. Had the two Wilko thefts been dealt with at the same time as the caution it is likely the matters would have been tied together, he said. Magistrates ordered she pay £73 compensation.
