Lawyers are delivering closing arguments in the trial of the first two officers to be prosecuted in the 2019 death of Elijah McClain.
Two of the Colorado police officers accused in the 2019 death of Elijah McClain began standing trial this week on criminal charges that were filed more than two years after the 23-year-old Black man died days following a physical confrontation.
Prosecutors say the officers ignored Elijah McClain's pleas that he couldn’t breathe. He was pronounced dead three days after going into cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital.
Elijah McClain was put in a neck hold and injected with a powerful sedative while walking home in a Denver suburb in 2019. The two officers pleaded not guilty to charges of criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter and assault.
