According to Carroll County Health Department statistics that Health Officer Ed Singer shared during Thursday’s Board of Commissioners meeting, 51,526 county residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
During a lengthy discussion, Commissioner Ed Rothstein, R-District 5, who initially recommended that the county end the state of emergency made a 180-degreee turn after the county’s emergency management manager, Valerie Hawkins, and Maggie Kunz, the county’s health planner, detailed to the commissioners the need for effective response to the pandemic.
The commissioners' vote to retain 85 acres of the Harrison-Leishear property near Mount Airy and to seek requests for proposals and sell the remaining 169 acres was approved unanimously.
According to health department numbers, more than 27,000 Carroll countians have been vaccinated. Some 7,310 adults older than 75 have been vaccinated after nearly 900 got shots on Monday or Tuesday, leaving about 4,000 more in that group — many of whom have already turned down the vaccine.
