Chicago Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson is expected to name Fred Waller to serve as interim Chicago police superintendent, sources said.

Waller was with the department for more than 30 years, retiring as the third-highest-ranking official.
Waller, who retired from the Chicago Police Department in 2020 after 34 years on the force, will take over when Johnson is sworn in on May 15.
The former CPD official will take over on an interim basis on May 15, the same day Brandon Johnson is inaugurated as mayor.
Waller will be the third person to lead the Chicago Police Department in less than six months and will immediately be charged with managing the department during the Memorial Day weekend, which typically results an increase in crime and violence.
