A court in Lilongwe has fined a Ugandan K1,000 for attempting to smuggle farm produce. The Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court has also ordered that his truck and 640 bags of soya beans he wanted to smuggle to Zambia be forfeited to the government. The court heard Tuesday that Eric Mugerwa wanted to smuggle the soya beans worth K11 million to Zambia. State Prosecutor Inspector Rodney Bottoman told the court that Mugerwa was busted on April 12 this year at Namitete Trading Centre while loading the bags into his truck, registration number RU 8635.
