Investment in critical minerals production surged 30% in 2021 to $41 billion, followed by a 20% increase in 2022, the International Energy Agency (IEA) says. This increase in funding for clean energy technologies, such as electric vehicles, has improved the supply picture for critical minerals, known to be in high demand in the energy transition. But cost overruns and project delays still pose a risk.
