Traditionally, RAN - the basic building block of a telecom network - has proprietary technologies of global players such as Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei and ZTE etc. Open RAN gained some momentum over the last few years but barring one greenfield network globally, the uptake has been slow till now.
Nitin Bansal said that the Swedish telecom gear maker is bullish on the Indian market, which continues to see its 5G network expand. However, he expects the rollout pace to slow down this year following the rapid deployment by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.
Ericsson: Asked if the Swedish gear maker is engaged in talks with Vi, Bansal said it never stopped discussing with anyone. "We have been talking to all three operators in India always, so the discussions are always ongoing," he said.

Under the "Make in India" programme, Ericsson earlier used to export 5G-ready telecom equipment from its manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra, to markets in Southeast Asia.
