(Photo courtesy of Marikina PIO) MANILA - Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro on Monday signed an ordinance granting amnesty on surcharges and interests of delinquent business taxpayers in the city. Under City Ordinance No. 064, series of 2022, the city will grant a 100 percent relief on surcharges and interests of delinquent business taxpayers from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2022 to help them recover from the effects of the pandemic and soaring inflation. Last Feb. 9, the previous city council enacted Ordinance No. 006, series of 2022, which provided amnesty grants on surcharges and interests of delinquent taxpayers until June 30. The move came a day after Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. urged local government units (LGUs) to develop and carry out transformative programs to ease the economic burden of their constituents due to surging oil and commodity prices. The grant of tax amnesty seeks to boost the city government's tax collection efforts and as a relief to taxpayers who are ....
(PNA photo by Manny Balbin) MANILA - The National Press Club of the Philippines has passed a special resolution calling on the incoming Marcos administration to continue supporting the operation of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS). "As one of the national media organizations actively engaged as media-partner and stakeholder of the task force since its creation by President Duterte in 2016, we have seen how effective the task force has been in fulfilling its mandate of giving protection to the life, liberty and safety of all media workers," NPC president Lydia Bueno said in a news release on Friday. "We believe its continuation under the Marcos administration would send the strong message to the world that it is just as committed, if not more, in upholding a free and responsible press that was started by the Duterte administration," she added. Under Special Resolution No. 1, series of 2022, the NPC noted that since the creation of the PTFoMS in ....
(File PNA photo) MANILA - The Department of Education (DepEd) was only following orders from the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) against the coronavirus disease 2019 when it ordered teachers to physically report back for work amid the global pandemic. The DepEd made the pronouncement following calls from the Alliance of Concerned Teachers-Philippines (ACT) to scrap Department Order 29, Series of 2022, which requires teachers to physically return to teaching in classrooms despite challenges like "poor internet connectivity" and "the increasing Covid-19 threat." The group criticized the department on Monday for its "lack of consultation" with affected teachers and for requiring physical attendance from May 2 to 13, when classes would be suspended so teachers could perform their election-related duties. DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla insisted that although they are not against providing teachers with "flexible& ....
MANILA - The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Tuesday announced changes to the registration, accreditation, and monitoring of tower, satellite, and delivery companies to streamline and remove "red tape." In a statement, DICT Secretary Emmanuel "Manny" Caintic said the changes were made through the DICT Department Circular (DC) No. 001, series of 2022 signed last Friday. "This would achieve the instructions of president Duterte to remove red tape and unnecessary steps, costs, and procedures in governmental dealings, as well as conform to Republic Act No 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018," Caintic said. He expressed concern over a dialogue he had with the heads of various private express and messenger delivery services (PEMDES) over their regulatory processing difficulties and other problems. "As the chief government agency responsible for the information and commun ....
MANILA - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) must streamline its rules on the 45-day election ban on public spending and expedite actions on pending requests for exemptions. In a statement Friday, Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte said the Comelec could speed up its action on applications for exemptions on fund releases or disbursements by giving itself a deadline of seven to 10 days. He said the Comelec could do away with the holding of a mandatory hearing to tackle each individual application and just approve the request motu proprio (on its initiative), if and when the applicant has submitted the complete documents and the commission has already found merit in such a plea for exemption. The poll body could empower its regional or provincial offices to act on applications in their respective localities, instead of requiring every applicant to present its case at the Comelec central office in Intramuros, Manila. Comelec's Resolution No. 10747 issued on Dec ....
