Ein Bauernsohn findet zum Journalismus Stefan Aust kommt am 1. Juli 1946 im niedersächsischen Stade zur Welt. Der Weg in den Journalismus ist für den Sohn eines Obstbauern nicht vorgezeichnet. Nach dem Abitur studiert er Soziologie, verlässt die Universität aber ohne Abschluss. Bei dem linken Politblatt "konkret" arbeitet Aust einige Jahre als Redakteur, wo er Ulrike Meinhofkennenlernt, wechselt dann zu den "St. Pauli-Nachrichten" und kommt 1970 zum Norddeutschen Rundfunk.
