Smuggled cigarettes made by South Korea’s KT&G account for a significant share of the Indian market

During the searches, sleuths of the customs department seized foreign-brand cigarettes and electronic cigarettes worth Rs 51 lakh. Officials said the seized material was illegally smuggled into India from various countries like China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the UAE.

DRI officials said they were closely monitoring the movement of the container carrying these cigarettes and intercepted it soon after it was diverted to a private godown instead of reaching its destination.
