While BSE Sensex has risen more than 79 per cent from its March lows, BSE PSU Index has added 39 per cent in the same period. Also, while Sensex has gained 11.5 per cent year to date, BSE PSU Index has dropped 20 per cent.

ETmarkets survey: ETMarkets Survey: Which theme can get best bang for your buck in 2021?

NEW DELHI: Every year, a certain theme decides market movement on Dalal Street and helps a certain sector outperform the others. If one can spot the dominant theme of a year, chances are she will have the widest smile at the end of it.
The themes of 2020 were digitisation and healthcare. In the years before that, the themes of financialization or consolidation in industry decided the winners and losers on Dalal Street.
So, what can be the dominant theme for the next calendar? Analysts who took part in this year's ETMarkets New Year Survey picked themes that were as varied as their investment styles.

Stocks to buy: ETMarkets Survey: Airtel projected to be biggest Nifty winner in 2021, Bajaj Finance top laggard

Synopsis
The ETMarkets survey showed near consensus among analysts that the winner of 2021 could be Bharti Airtel. Bajaj Finance is the stock many of them are projecting as likely underperformer of the New Year.
Airtel has started gaining market share, and is now adding more users than Reliance Jio.

Synopsis
In the ETMarkets New Year Survey, brokerages set very ambitious yearend targets for Sensex, with some going as high as 51,500. For Nifty, the highest target was 15,100. That’s when they sounded worried about rising stock valuations.
Chokkalingam expects the domestic equity market to correct at least 10 per cent before June quarter earnings, 2021.
NEW DELHI: In hindsight, the recovery in domestic stocks from March lows has been reminiscent of the rally seen in March 2009, when Sensex had recovered from a multi-year low of 8,160.
If that was it, would Calendar 2021 mirror 2010?
