The Hawks have made a seventh arrest in connection with the looting of funds meant for the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Brandfort House Museum in the Free State.
The Hawks allege that fraudulent activities by the six accused caused the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation to suffer a loss of more than R700,000.
Tsoarelo Malakoane, a former Free State head of department of sports, arts and culture, five other people and two companies appeared before the Welkom magistrate’s court to face fraud and corruption charges.
The charges include fraud, corruption, money laundering, contravention of the Public Finance Management Act, and contravention of the Municipal Management Act.
