A Status Yellow weather warning for Cork, Kerry and Waterford remains in place this morning after heavy rain last night created a risk of some river and localised surface flooding. The warning that will be lifted at 4pm today states that rainfall totals of 30 to 40mm can be expected, particularly in mountainous regions. A yellow warning for rainfall has been issued for 3 counties in the south, with 30 to 40 mm expected to fall in some areas and a risk of flooding.

This follows an earlier Status Yellow gale Warning of southwest winds reaching force 8 and occasionally strong gale force 9, today on Irish coastal waters from Loop Head to Rossan Point to Fair Head. “Southerly winds veering westerly will increase to gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 tonight and early Thursday on Irish Coastal Waters from Fair Head to Carnsore Point to Valentia,” a marine warning adds.
