Henderson County Commissioner Mike Edney has announced he will vote against the proposed conditional rezoning request for an asphalt plant in East Flat Rock.
Henderson County (May 26, 2021) - Henderson County Commissioner Michael Edney announced Wednesday that he will oppose a rezoning request to allow an asphalt plant in East Flat Rock. Edney said he was announcing his decision now "to help alleviate the fear and stress brought on by uncontrolled misinformation."
A proposed asphalt plant in East Flat Rock continues to cause division and conflict.
The hearing will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, May 17, at Thomas Auditorium at Blue Ridge Community College. The applicant, Southeastern Asphalt plant owner Jeff Shipman, is seeking a rezoning of 6.5 acres on Spartanburg Highway at the U.S. 25 Connector from Community Commercial to a conditional district. A conditional zoning districts allows commissioners to place restrictions pertaining to lighting, hours, noise, stormwater treatment and other factors. The Planning Board voted 5-2 on April 19 to recommend that commissioners deny the request.
