Global climate change linked to delay in unveiling of negative leap second
A study led by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California suggests that instead of regularly adding a second to world clocks, timekeepers might have to start subtracting seconds starting around 2029. Scientists attribute the change in time to changes in Earth’s magnetic field, masked by the melting of sea ice in polar regions.
