The weather is harsh, the lake is completely frozen and the current temperature ranges from -10 to -25 degree Celsius near the lake area. On the nearby heights it goes below -30 degree Celsius with a highly negative wind chill factor. Such is the weather that frost bites happen in less than five minutes of exposure.

Pangong-Tso, a calm saltwater lake situated at almost 14,000 feet in Eastern Ladakh is considered holy for both Indians as well as Tibetans. It has been a major point in the ancient Silk Route and until June 2020, was known to be a tourist place and a perfect spot to shoot movies but for last ten months or so, the lake and its surrounding areas are better known for the standoff between Indian and Chinese forces which are at loggerheads after the Galvan incident.
