The fast response of linear speed for linear induction motors (LIMs) based on sliding mode control with finite-control-set model predictive flux control is proposed in this paper. In this proposed method, the linear speed is controlled using the sliding mode control (SMC) instead of the proportional-integral (PI) control. Besides, the finite-control-set (FCS) depends on the primary flux only, hence the weighting factor is eliminated. Furthermore, the calculation processes reduce as the primary flux is only required in the prediction stage. The proposed control method is applied to guarantee lower thrust ripples. All variables and states for estimation, prediction, and cost function are in the αβ-coordinates. During the modeling of the LIMs and the proposed control process, the end-effect is taken into consideration.
