The National Interagency Fire Center reports only 13,981 acres have burned as of late February. This is the least amount of damage in more than a decade and is around 80% below normal. Most regions of the U.S. are expected to have normal or below-normal fire activity through May.
The U.S. Forest Service said Black Bear Fire in Haywood County had burned nearly 1,200 acres and is 0% contained as of 11 a.m. Nov. 17.
