City sells old fire truck to Firefighters Charitable Society


“The Fort St. John Firefighters Charitable Society has access to donated material and labor which will allow the restoration of this historical piece of equipment to take place in a fiscally responsible manner.”
In the report, CAO Milo MacDonald says there were discussions about the city taking on the restoration project. However, the project never came to fruition “because of the challenge of expending public funds for a restoration”.
MacDonald says engine one is in reasonable mechanical condition but isn’t roadworthy and would cost $50,000 to restore.
“Although the truck has historical value, it would be difficult to justify that the City undertake a restoration of the truck with taxpayer dollars because there are many higher priorities.” ....

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Firefighters Charitable Society has received a lot of support from local companies for their Annual Christmas Drop Off donation campaign.
According to the Firefighters Charitable Society, many companies have stepped up to make this year’s donation campaign a success with Peace River Hydro Partners giving $2,500, Safeway donating $1,500 in gift cards, the UFA giving $1500, and White Ram Contracting contributing $1,000.
The Christmas Drop Off is a donation campaign that sees five families each receive a decorated Christmas tree, wrapped gifts for each child, and a turkey dinner donated by Rumble Industries, with members of the Fort St. John Fire Department delivering the items to each family on December 18. ....
