10,000 stores are expected to close in 2021, as pandemic continues to pummel retailers CNBC 1/28/2021 Lauren Thomas Coresight Research predicts as many as 10,000 stores could close in the U.S. this year, which would set a new record. As of Jan. 22, Coresight said, retailers in the U.S. have already announced 1,678 closures, which include ones by Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy's and J.C. Penney.
