Residents of the town of Foresthill in Placer County can begin returning home as evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings for the Mosquito Fire, officials said Monday afternoon.
Flames from the Mosquito Fire moved dangerously close to the community of Foresthill in Placer County after a spot fire jumped the Middle Fork of the American River, officials said.
Containment is steadily growing on the Mosquito Fire burning in Placer and El Dorado counties, but forecast winds could still pose a risk to crews battling the flames.
The most active part of the fire is burning north and northeast in Placer County, triggering more evacuations. The fire is also burning in El Dorado County.
