A sixth straight Spare the Air alert is in effect on Thursday, warning residents about unhealthy levels of smog in the Bay Area. A ninth consecutive Flex Alert has also been issued for Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Residents across the Tri-Valley on Wednesday were facing another day of sweltering temps, in the midst of a heat wave that is extending further into the week, with hundreds in Livermore and Dublin experiencing unplanned power outages.
To drive home the demand, alerts were sent to cell phones across the state urging people to "conserve energy now to protect public health and safety."
