Winifred S. Dutke

Died on June 29, 2023 at age of 97. Born on March 2, 1926 to Frank and Florence Manning Schultz in Glendive MT, she grew up on their ranch with her brothers, Bill (Betty), Ed (Lucy), Bud (Audrey) and Joe (Rose), all of whom have preceded her. In 1944, she went to work on the NPRR as a telegrapher agent where she met her husband Herman Dutke. They had four children, Cathy Roberts, Frank, Bernadette and Mary Elizabeth and raised them in Dickinson ND. Having two at a time in college sent her to work at the local hospital/St. Joseph’s Hospital where she became the administrator’s secretary. Winnie had a talent for organizing things and belonged to many organizations. In 1995, both her husband and daughter Cathy died within three weeks. In 1997 she moved to West St. Paul to live with Bernie and watch Frank’s children grow up. It didn’t take her long to find other ladies who had lived in ND and organize a group to meet for lunch. Winnie volunteered at St. Joseph’s Church serving funeral lunches and at Salem Lutheran Church to lead a group of volunteers giving day care to people with mental problems. She also volunteered through DARTS helping a blind friend. Preceding her in death were her daughters Cathy and Mary Elizabeth, son-in-law Al Roberts, grandson Ross Herman Roberts and daughter-in-law Pat Dutke. Besides her two children, she is survived by four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her. A funeral mass was held in West St. Paul on July 6. Memorials preferred to the St. Patrick’s Church, 229 3rd Ave West, Dickinson.
