CHENNAI : Vandalur railway station has emerged as a convenient transit point for people who take suburban trains to reach Kilambakkam bus terminus.
The railways has built a new foot overbridge (FOB) to replace a level crossing at Putlur railway station on Chennai-Tiruvallur route. However, railways did not think about a lift. People, especially senior citizens, continue to cross the tracks, often hopping over a new fence built to close the level crossing. This has put people at risk as the suburban station is on the route where trains run at 130kmph.

Estimated at Rs 90L, the exercise will ascertain worthiness of flyovers, culverts and pedestrian bridges on both Western and Eastern Express highways
