Man accused of stealing guns from deceased owner enters guilty pleas The Daily Jeffersonian A man accused of stealing a half-dozen firearms from a Cambridge resident less than 24 hours after the gun owner died will be sentenced for his crimes on May 6 in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court. Joseph S. Nicholson, 26, Cambridge, entered negotiated guilty pleas to single counts of grand theft (property is a firearm or dangerous ordnance), a third-degree felony; violation of fireworks manufacture prohibition, a third-degree felony; and breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony. He was one of several individuals who recently appeared for criminal hearings in the common pleas court. ....
Psychologist finds man is not capable of assisting with his own defense The Daily Jeffersonian A Cambridge area man facing three separate felony cases charging him with assault and drug-related offenses was recently found incompetent to stand trial in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court. James C. Asp, 50, was found to be incompetent following an evaluation by Dr. Jaime Adkins of the Forensic Diagnostic Center of District Nine Inc. The court record stated it is the psychologist s opinion that defendant (Asp) does have a mental illness and is not currently capable of assisting counsel in his own defense. Adkins also determined Asp could be restored to competency in the time allowed by Ohio law one year if given a course of treatment at a secure facility. ....
