NASA and Lockheed Martin have debuted the X-59 quiet supersonic aircraft, which aims to enable commercial supersonic flight over land by generating a quieter sonic thump. The X-59 is part of NASA's Quesst mission to provide data for regulators to reconsider supersonic flight rules. The aircraft is designed to fly at 1.4 times the speed of sound and will undergo flight tests before being transferred to NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center.
