Hato Pāora head boy embraces leadership role
He liked to take charge, but knew when to sit back and reflect. Before accepting the role he told principal Nathan Matthews academics were his first priority, and he wanted to be the school’s dux, but Matthews told him to stick to his processes. He enjoyed what the Catholic Māori boarding school offered, with an emphasis on faith, leadership, Māori activities and driving students’ skills and passions. Bennett is also a prop in the school’s first XV rugby team, plays golf, is involved in choir, kapa haka and the Pūhoro science technology engineering and maths academy.
