Virginia will receive more than $3.6 million for more than 119,000 consumers who were tricked into paying to file their federal tax returns.
Tens of thousands of Maryland consumers who paid TurboTax for free tax services will start getting checks this month as part of a settlement.
According to a statement from Attorney General Kwame Raoul, “consumers deceived into paying for tax services that were available for free” will receive the checks.
The return of money stems from recent events.
Consumers who used Intuit’s TurboTax products to file their taxes in 2016, 2017 or 2018 may be getting a settlement check in the mail as soon as next week.
