Collin-class submarines to receive life-extension to cover major capability gap

Australia's Collins-class submarines will be given a life extension with the federal government announcing a $10 billion project to rebuild the navy’s ageing vessels. In what is a sign of the ongoing problems with the nation's future submarine fleet, the multimillion-dollar program will temporarily cover a major capability gap resulting from delays over the construction of new French Attack-class submarines.
