In August 2023, skygazers worldwide will witness two Supermoons and a rare Blue Moon, making it an exceptional celestial show. The Sturgeon Moon, also known as the first Full Moon, named after the Giant Sturgeon, is set to grace the skies on August 1. The Super Blue Moon, a combination of rare phenomena, will peak on August 30, 2023. Seasonal Blue Moons occur when there are four full moons in one season. Observers are encouraged to choose dark sky locations and check the weather forecast. Binoculars or a telescope may enhance the stargazing experience.

Of the two supermoons, called the sturgeon moon and the blue moon, one will be the closest the moon will be to the Earth this year.

Cyprus is getting ready to be starstruck as the Perseids, a prolific meteor shower, will peak the night of August 12-13. That is, two days prior to the new Moon.It is expected that up to 100 meteors per hour will be seen and the good news is that observation conditions will be particularly favorable
