“This use of high-frequency spectrum in 6G will be the key enabling technology to provide throughput speeds 100 times greater than current 5G networks,” it said. However, as cellular technologies have never used spectrum bands in this range before, the most pressing concern for telcos would be to minimise this network interference, or “risk creating an unreliable 6G network”, the research firm said.

6G Technology: 6G is slated to pave the way for fast broadband networks powered by artificial intelligence, allowing automated infrastructure optimisation. With data speeds potentially hitting 100 Gbps, it is estimated to be almost 100 times faster than 5G mobile broadband. 6G also promises improvements in network connectivity over 5G. Typical 5G use cases such as smart cities, smart factories, smart farms and robotics are slated to hit the next level in terms of efficiency.

Nokia 5G: On the other hand, he noted that enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and fixed wireless are expected to be among the earliest use cases of the fifth-generation or 5G technology in India.

International Telecommunication Union: As per the ministry, DoT’s technical arm Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) has spearheaded India’s standardisation work on ITU’s 6G Framework.
