Central Congregational Church seeks money to save its stained glass windows
GALESBURG One of Galesburg s most recognizable, visible and historic churches is seeking public and private help to save its trademark stained glass windows.
Central Congregational Church, 60 Public Square, estimates it will cost nearly $100,000 to repair the outer glass and frames that protect the distinctive three Hitchcock Windows on the north side of the structure. 
The church, finished in 1898 by the founding abolitionists, has submitted a facade grant application for review by the Façade Advisory Committee at its meeting Tuesday at Galesburg City Hall. The Facade Committee recommendation would then go to the city council for its final review and decision. ....
