Advertisement Motor vehicle thefts in eight of the worst affected council areas in NSW account for more than a third of the state s total, with the rates more than doubling in some regions. There were 12,064 motor vehicle thefts recorded across the state in the year to September 2020, compared with 13,554 in the previous 12 months, the latest figures from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research show. Canterbury-Bankstown had the highest number of thefts in 2019-20, at 640, followed by the Central Coast, with 600 thefts, and Blacktown, with 590. In comparison, 24 vehicles were stolen in North Sydney, which had one of the lowest numbers in Greater Sydney. ....
